Am / Is / Are

review  ·  the verb English uses for everything

You already know this verb. One English verb does four different jobs, and it is required every time — for what someone is right now and for what they always are. Spanish splits that between ser and estar; English does not split it. Every example on this sheet is in your language too.

✂ Cut here — Answer Key
Write am, is, or are: 1 is  ·  2 am  ·  3 are  ·  4 is  ·  5 are  ·  6 are.    Make it a question: Is she tired?  ·  Are you cold?  ·  Are they at school?  ·  Is it rainy today?    Fix the sentence: It is cold today.  ·  I am hungry.  ·  She is tired.  ·  Are you a student?    Short forms count in statements (It's cold today.) but never in a short yes answer: "Yes, she is." is right, "Yes, she's." is wrong.
