The N-400 practice uses fictional profiles so you can practice the English. At your real interview, always answer truthfully about your own life. If you are not sure how to answer, talk with an immigration lawyer or an accredited helper before your interview.
No account, no name
Patina does not have accounts, and no part of this site requires your name. You can use every practice tool, every lesson and every game without telling us who you are.
A few tools let you type a name if you want one shown. A name you type into a class game stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. A name you type in a video classroom is shown to the other person in the call and to nobody else. A results card saves the name next to your scores, and only if you choose to share that card.
What we count
We count how often pages are opened: which page, which language, and which day, as totals only. We do not record your name, your IP address, your answers, or anything you type. Nothing we count can be traced back to you, and we do not build a profile of anyone. We do not sell anything and we do not run ads.
Sound and the microphone
Sound you hear from Patina is either a recorded audio file or your browser's own voice. Nothing is sent anywhere to play it.
Reading practice lets you read a sentence aloud so it can be checked. The microphone opens only when you press Record. Your browser sends your voice to its own speech service, run by Google, Microsoft or Apple depending on which browser you use, and sends back the words as text. Patina never receives your audio and saves none of it. Every reading exercise also works without the microphone.
Whiteboard translation and video classrooms
The classroom whiteboard can translate a word or short phrase a teacher writes. That text is sent to Anthropic to be translated, and common words are kept so the same word does not have to be translated twice.
Video classrooms are private and are set up by a program coordinator, not by the public. Nothing is recorded. Your camera and microphone go through Daily, the service that carries the call, and are not stored by Patina. The video service is never told who you are: it sees only "Teacher" and "Learner". If captions are switched on, they work the same way as reading practice above, and the spoken text is never kept.
Content sources
Civics questions and answers come from the official USCIS document "128 Civics Questions and Answers (2025 version)" (M-1778). Reading and writing sentences use only words from the official USCIS reading and writing vocabulary lists.
Some civics answers change (for example, the names of elected officials). For the most current answers, visit uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates.
The N-400 practice profiles are completely fictional. Every name, address, date, phone number, and answer is invented for language practice. They do not correspond to any real person.
If you send us a suggestion
Every page has a link to a suggestion form. It sends us what you write, which of the five topics you picked if you picked one, and the address of the page you came from. Your name and your email are optional, and the form works perfectly well without them. Nothing else is collected: no account, no IP address, no tracking of what you looked at before.
You may also attach a screenshot. It is optional, it is shrunk in your own browser before it is sent, and re-saving it there removes the hidden camera information a photo can carry, including location. The form shows you the picture before you send it, because a screenshot can reveal more than you intend. You can remove it again with one button.
Suggestions are stored privately and are read only by the people who run Patina Education. They are never published, never shown to other visitors, and never used for advertising. If you would like a suggestion of yours deleted, write to the address below and say roughly when you sent it.
